Harley-Davidson riders on a group ride at sunset
Inside the world of the H.O.G. Rally

The Road Was Only
Ever the Beginning

Every year, thousands of Harley-Davidson riders point their front wheels toward the same horizon. What they find when they arrive isn't an event — it's a family.

About H.O.G.® Rallies

The Largest Riding Family on Earth

The Harley Owners Group — H.O.G. — is the official riding club of Harley-Davidson and the biggest factory-sponsored motorcycle community in the world. It was founded in 1983 on an idea as simple as a straight road: ride, and have fun.

Four decades on, that idea spans the globe — a membership card became a genuine culture, measured in miles and shared across borders.

The experience

A Day That Doesn't Really End

No two rallies are the same — but the rhythm is. Here's how a day unfolds.

Misty morning, coffee and bikes at a rally

Morning — Kickstands Up

Registration and the day's first pin. Coffee in hand, plans taking shape, and the first group rides rolling out before the heat arrives.

Mid-ride canyon sweep

Afternoon — The Heart of It

Scenic rides through the region's best roads. Back at the grounds: the vendor village, gleaming rows of the bike show, cold drinks, and local food. This is where the day earns its miles.

Evening stage and warm rally crowd

Evening — The Long Table

Live music rolls in as the light goes. Charity totals are announced, awards are handed out, and the storytelling begins around bonfires and open-air stages — the part nobody wants to end.

What makes it ours

The Things Riders Carry

Every real community has its rituals. These are the ones riders carry from rally to rally — and sometimes, from one generation to the next.

Rally Pins

A wearable travel diary — every pin is a place you've been.

Poker Runs

A ride with a game inside it: collect a card at each stop, best hand wins.

Charity Rides

Riding with a reason. Giving back is stitched into the culture, not added on.

Brotherhood & Sisterhood

Patches fade; the people don't. This is family you meet on the road.

Chrome & destinations

The Machines — and the Places They Gather

A rally is a rolling museum of Harley-Davidson engineering. Here's what you'll spot — and where the legends gather.

Harley-Davidson Road Glide

Road Glide

The fixed "shark-nose" fairing tourer, built to devour highway.

Harley-Davidson Street Glide

Street Glide

The batwing-faired icon of the bagger world; a rally mainstay.

Harley-Davidson Road King

Road King

Classic touring silhouette, chrome and tradition in equal measure.

Harley-Davidson Fat Boy

Fat Boy

Solid, muscular, unmistakable — a cultural icon in its own right.

Your First Rally, Handled

Nobody's born knowing rally etiquette. A little know-how ahead of time, and you'll roll in like a regular.

The Unwritten Rules

  • Respect other riders — a nod and patience go a long way.
  • Ride your own ride — stay within your limits.
  • Group-ride manners — formation, signals, spacing.
  • Ask before you shoot — most riders love showing a build.
  • Be a good guest — spend locally, stay respectful.

The Packing Checklist

  • Helmet
  • Riding jacket
  • Gloves & boots
  • Rain gear
  • Sunglasses & sunscreen
  • Water & phone charger
  • First aid kit & basic tools

Tips for First-Timers

  • Arrive early — beat the line, claim a good spot.
  • Say yes to a group ride — the fastest way to meet people.
  • Pace yourself — long days; hydrate and rest.
  • Bring cash — some vendors and charity stalls prefer it.

Questions Riders Actually Ask

Any Harley-Davidson owner can become a full member. Partners, passengers, and family can join as associate members through a full member.

To be a full member, yes — but rallies are welcoming events, and associate membership brings in riders' families and passengers who don't own a bike.

Absolutely. Two-up riding is core to the culture, and associate membership is built with passengers and partners in mind.

Completely. Every veteran was a first-timer once. Guided rides and a famously friendly crowd make it easy to ease in.

It varies — from single-day gatherings to multi-day events built around rides, shows, and evening entertainment.

Proper gear on the bike — helmet, jacket, gloves, boots. Off the bike, casual and comfortable. Pack layers; road weather changes fast.

Many are, with food, music, and shows suitable for all ages — though the vibe varies by event, so check the specific program.

A ride with checkpoints where you collect a playing card at each stop. Best five-card hand wins — often tied to a charity.

Usually yes, though models, availability, and requirements (valid license, proper gear) vary by event. Check the demo schedule on arrival.

Yes — H.O.G. is global. Many rallies draw riders from around the world; some ship their bikes, others rent on arrival.

Riders ride rain or shine — good rain gear is essential. Most rallies carry on, with some outdoor activities adjusted for weather.

Often, yes. Many rallies offer on-site or nearby camping, and for a lot of riders it's a favorite part of the experience.

Lone rider on an open highway at sunset

You don't ride to the rally. You ride to the people — the road just happens to be how you get there.

A H.O.G. rally was never really about the schedule, the vendors, or even the machines. It's about what happens when thousands of people who share one passion turn toward the same horizon. Strangers become friends. Roads become stories.

For more than forty years, the Harley Owners Group has proved a simple truth: the ride is better together. The engines will fire up again soon — and somewhere, a road is already waiting.
